The New Linn Klimax Radikal & Keel SE
A New Era for the Sondek LP12
Two masterpieces have arrived from Linn’s engineering team in Glasgow — each redefining what’s possible from the world’s most iconic turntable. The new Klimax Radikal and Keel SE bring together revolutionary digital precision, advanced machining, and exquisite isolation to elevate the Sondek LP12 into an entirely new performance realm.
Keel SE — The Super Evolution of LP12 Engineering
The new Keel SE represents the super evolution of Linn’s highest-performance LP12 sub-chassis. When the original Keel launched in 2006, it broke new ground with its precision-machined, one-piece design that became the structural heart of every Klimax LP12.
High End Mary, our LP12 whisperer, unboxing a Keel SE.
Now, with Keel SE, Linn’s engineers have taken that foundation to an entirely new level. Using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) — a revolutionary digital modelling technique — they’ve evaluated every limitation of the original Keel, and then transcended them through cutting-edge virtual prototyping and advanced in-house machining.
The outcome is a visibly refined and technically superior sub-chassis with:
Dramatically increased stiffness,
Optimised resonant behaviour, and
Perfectly balanced mass distribution across the suspension.
Every contour, cavity, and structural brace has been refined to eliminate resonance and improve energy control. The result is an LP12 that sounds more dynamic, rhythmically precise, and tonally pure than ever before — the perfect mechanical partner to the new Klimax Radikal.

Klimax Radikal — Power, Precision & Perfection
The new Klimax Radikal features entirely redesigned casework, bringing its appearance in line with the rest of Linn’s beautifully machined Klimax range. Beneath its sculpted aluminium exterior lies a host of engineering upgrades that deliver both aesthetic harmony and sonic superiority.
Its significant performance gains come from a bespoke Utopik power supply, integrated into an improved chassis that provides exceptional electrical and mechanical isolation.
This Utopik power supply is critical to Radikal’s precision. It features two completely separate, self-regulating output rails — one dedicated to the LP12’s DC motor, the other to powering Urika or Urika II internal phono stages. This separation ensures total power purity: any sudden draws from the motor or controller do not affect the phono stage, and vice versa. The result is absolute consistency and control, enhancing the performance of both systems simultaneously.

Housed in its own self-contained, machined aluminium chamber, the Utopik power supply benefits from thick aluminium walls and physical separation from the main Radikal board, achieving superior electrical isolation.
Mechanical performance has also been elevated. Weighing nearly 14 kilograms, the Radikal’s enclosure is machined from three solid pieces of aluminium, resting on high-mass stainless-steel feet with rubber damping inserts. The result is a chassis that is both silent and immovable, maintaining perfect motor stability and protecting the delicate musical signal from any external influence.
