"Parsifal à Venise" a fredSherman session
Join us on Sunday, June 15, for a unique Vinyl Vibes Sunday session hosted by fredSherman. Inspired by the essay “Parsifal à Venise” by the late conductor Giuseppe Sinopoli — born and educated in Venice — this session explores the curious contrast between Richard Wagner, the ultimate Ur-German composer, and the soulful city of Venice.
Sinopoli, a celebrated Wagner conductor, had a deep appreciation for this contrast. Wagner himself, surprisingly, advised his singers — the heroic tenors and heroines of his operas — to sing in the style of bel canto: melodic, sweet, and beautiful in tone. Quite the opposite of what we often hear in modern Wagnerian performances.
But don’t worry — this session is meant to be light and inviting. Think of it as a series of short musical bites, each paired with a brief and engaging commentary by fredSherman.
A perfect Sunday escape for music lovers —
Don’t miss it!
